Mazda Confirms It Will Use NACS Chargers for Its Electric Vehicle

The Japanese auto industry is a true giant in global terms, with Japanese cars being extremely popular not just in their home country but also all around the globe. The auto industry is actually a powerful fuel for the Japanese economy.
Among the most popular and reliable brands in Japan is Mazda, which produced a total of 1.1 million vehicles globally in 2023. The company also has a significant increase in revenue, which is a result of the cars’ popularity.
And while Mazda produces both “regular” and electric vehicles, a significant change is coming to EV users, as the company recently revealed in a press release.
The change will affect only electric users, since it has to do with the charging port. As you might have guessed, Mazda has decided to change its charging port and adapt a new standard in the upcoming years.
“Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) today announced an agreement was reached with Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for charging ports on the company’s battery electric vehicles (BEV) launched in Japan from 2027 onward,” the company revealed in a press release.
If you’re angry with the decision, we have to reiterate that this decision will only impact Japanese Mazda cars for now, not those driven in Europe, as it seems. As for North American users, especially in the U.S., are concerned, this will have numerous benefits, as they will now be able to use Tesla’s Supercharger network.
This is a decision motivated by Ford’s recent decision, and it seems that Mazda will be just one of a series of other automakers to adapt to this new standard. “Mazda BEVs will be compatible with other charging standards besides NACS with the use of adapters,” the company said, but if you’re accessing non-NACS chargers, you will need an adapter.
