US Mazda Sales Jump in April as Buyers Hurry to Beat Price Increases

Mazda had a strong month in April 2025, with U.S. sales rising by 21% compared to the same time last year. Many shoppers rushed to buy cars before expected price increases caused by new tariffs. In total, Mazda sold 37,660 vehicles last month, making it their second-best April ever in the United States.

The CX-5 was Mazda’s best-selling model in April. Even though it’s an older model, 12,590 units were sold. The CX-50 also did well, with a 48.4% jump in sales to 7,753 units. Meanwhile, the CX-90 saw a 46.2% increase, with 5,402 vehicles sold — its best April ever. Both the CX-30 and CX-50 also had their second-best April on record.

So far this year, Mazda has sold 147,976 vehicles, which is 12.8% more than at the same point in 2024. All models are seeing gains except for the CX-30, which is down by 24.5% compared to last year.

It wasn’t just new cars selling fast. Mazda’s certified pre-owned vehicles were also popular in April, with 6,855 units sold, up 9% from last year.

While April was a big win for Mazda, there could be problems ahead. A large part of Mazda’s U.S. lineup, 81% of their vehicles, are imported from other countries. That makes Mazda one of the most exposed automakers to tariff increases, right behind Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo.

If new tariffs from the Trump administration go into effect, Mazda could be forced to raise prices, which might slow down future sales. For now, though, Mazda is enjoying a strong start to 2025.

Will Mazda be able to keep up the momentum if prices rise? That remains to be seen.
