New Citroën C5 Aircross Revealed with Bold Look and Electric Option
Citroën has just shown off the all-new C5 Aircross. This is the second version of the popular family SUV, and it’s bigger, bolder, and now comes with electric power for the first time.
The new C5 Aircross is built on the same platform as the latest Peugeot 3008 and Vauxhall Grandland. It’s 150mm longer than the old one, with a longer wheelbase too. Most of this extra space goes to the back seats, giving passengers more legroom and comfort.
Citroën says the inside now feels like a “living room,” and they call it the “C-Zen Lounge.”
Inside, there’s a new dashboard inspired by home furniture. It uses soft foam padding, and buyers can choose light or dark colors. There’s also ambient lighting with eight color choices to set the mood.
In the center of the dash is Citroën’s largest-ever touchscreen. It floats above the dashboard and replaces most buttons. It’s easy to use while driving, with handy widgets and quick access to things like climate control.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 10-inch digital display come as standard. Drivers can also use voice control powered by ChatGPT, just by saying “Hello Citroën.”
The seats have been upgraded for more comfort. The front ones have thick padding, and the sides can now be adjusted with electric controls. In the back, passengers get more knee and headroom than before. The backrests can recline, and there are cupholders and USB-C ports for charging.
The new C5 Aircross has a much bigger boot, with 651 litres of space—more than the Nissan Qashqai. Fold down the seats, and you get up to 1668 litres. There’s also a hidden 75-litre compartment under the boot floor to store charging cables.
Buyers can choose from different types of engines:
- A mild hybrid that combines a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a small electric motor.
- A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that uses a 1.6-litre engine and a bigger electric motor for more power and 53 miles of electric-only range.
- A fully electric version with two battery choices:
- A 73kWh battery for 323 miles of range
- A 97kWh battery for 422 miles of range
Power goes to the front wheels, with options for 207bhp or 227bhp motors.
Prices haven’t been announced yet, but the hybrid model is expected to start below £35,000. The electric version should be around £40,000. Deliveries will begin later this year.
The new C5 Aircross brings bold design, high-tech features, and more comfort—plus the choice to go electric. It looks like Citroën is ready to take on the growing crossover market in Europe.
