Hyundai has been one of the most popular Asian car brands around the world, but while the company has had success with some of its models, it seems that some others are faced with some major issues.

One of them is the Hyundai Palisade crossover SUV, whose first model was released back in 2018, with the most recent generation – the second one – appearing in 2024.

Now, we don’t exactly know how well the Palisade has been selling, but it has been among the company’s most popular models in the United States, which is why we’re reporting on an American class action lawsuit against Hyundai Motor America over an issue with the Palisade.

So, what’s the issue? Well, according to the lawsuit, which was filed back in May but has only recently gotten more publicity, claims that the Palisade’s problematic anti-lock braking or traction control systems lead to increased stopping distances; this issue is apparently present in some 2023 to 2025 models.

According to the document, Hyundai was aware of this issue, but refused to acknowledge it and remedy it, thereby endangering the lives of its customers and breaching the warranty agreement. “Hyundai has failed to repair the ABS Defect in Class Vehicles within a reasonable time. As a result, many Class Vehicle owners have been forced to continue driving their cars with faulty brakes that suffer from the ABS Defect,” the lawsuit states.

And while the Palisade received high safety scores and remains as one of Hyundai’s essential models for the U.S. market, this is – ironically – not the only suit filed against the company over safety issues.

Another suit concerns some 2020 to 2023 models over an issue where the vehicle’s seatbelts could unexpectedly unlatch, but the investigation on this one is still pending. An estimate lists a potential 332,288 Palisades affected by this investigation, and while the story is still developing, we are happy to confirm that there have been no reported injuries or incidents involving this one.
