Alongside GTA VI, The Witcher IV might be the biggest gaming release in the upcoming years, based on how popular the franchises are and how big the demand is among the fandom.

And while we know when GTA VI is supposed to come out, The Witcher IV is still a major mystery. We’ve seen a teaser video not that long ago, and it looks stunning, but the developers are secretive about the release information.

What we do know is that Ciri is going to be the protagonist of the upcoming game, a major change that not everyone welcomed completely. But, regardless of the comments, it seems that the developers have a firm stance on the issue.

In a recent talk with the press, CD Projekt Red’s chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz talked about the upcoming game, as well as the company. Of course, what interests us the most is what he said about The Witcher IV, the game that is set to be a major hit upon release.

We’ve already seen the beautiful teaser video, which highlights a somewhat different direction for the game with the new protagonist. As you might understand, not everyone was happy with the fact that Ciri would be taking over, but Nielubowicz is firm in his stance.

When asked what he could tell us about the upcoming game, he did not reveal much, but he reaffirmed the company’s stance related to Ciri. “At the TGA gala in December, we presented the first trailer, which was created using the proprietary version of the Unreal Engine 5 engine. Although it did not show the gameplay itself, it gave players an idea of what they could expect from ‘The Witcher 4’,” he started his answer.

“Above all, we wanted to introduce the world to the main character of the game. We believe that Ciri is a great choice for the new saga, because she gives us many possibilities – both narrative and artistic. It also gives us the opportunity to tell the story from a new perspective,” he explained, praising Ciri. “Apart from that, unfortunately, I can’t reveal anything more. We have the ambition to reach higher and higher with each new game, and this also applies to the fourth part of ‘The Witcher’.”
