The developers at Krafton have announced that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will finally move to current-gen consoles with major improvements.

This upgrade will bring better performance, higher FPS, faster map loading, and improved graphics. The developers are making sure PUBG runs better on modern hardware by fixing old issues and making the game look even better.

To make this happen, PUBG is moving to Unreal Engine 5. The team says that this change will provide “elevated graphical fidelity and a more scalable development environment, ensuring PUBG remains visually impressive and technically adaptable for years to come.” This means the game will have better visuals and be easier to update in the future.

Back in 2022, PUBG got a small update for Xbox Series X|S, which improved resolution and frame rates. However, the game still used the same basic technology as the Xbox One version. With this new upgrade, PUBG will finally take full advantage of the power of newer consoles.

There’s no gameplay footage of the Unreal Engine 5 version yet, but Krafton did mention it in their 2025 roadmap video. Fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the improvements in action, but it sounds like a great reason to jump back into PUBG on Xbox next year!
