The Megami Tensei franchise is one of the biggest Japanese franchises, although you might now know it that well, like some others (e.g., Final Fantasy). The franchise has given us numerous popular video games, as well as numerous adaptations.

Among the franchise’s most popular brands is the Persona series, an extremely popular video game series that also has some notable anime and other adaptations.

Persona has given us six mainline games, as well as several spin-offs. The most recent one, Persona 5: The Phantom X, was released last year as an open beta, but we now have some good news for the fans!

The Phantom X spin-off is set in the same modern-day city of Tokyo as Persona 5 and is a combination of an RPG and a social simulation game that will allow players to explore a well-known world, but from a different point of view.

The game will feature a new main character who will be the leader of the Phantom Thieves group. Its gameplay will be more or less like that of Persona 5, including the turn-based combat and a “synergy system” where players can form close ties with NPCs in the game, so don’t expect any major surprises or changes.

Here is the game’s story trailer:

The game will also feature some multiplayer elements, so it will be a proper combination of various elements that is in line with the traditions of the Persona franchise.

Of course, this is not what the fans really wanted – everyone knows the fans are waiting for Persona 6 – but it is a nice addition to the franchise that might just do the trick until they announce a proper sequel. The game is launching on both mobile and PC on June 26, 2025.
