Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford Is Extremely Optimistic About ‘Borderlands 4’: “We’re working our asses off, but the momentum is insane.”

2K is a company that has had success in the video gaming world, but when Gearbox actually launched Borderlands, no one expected the game to be so successful as it eventually ended up being.
Both the first and the second games were surprising hits, as the fans loved the quirky approach to a well-known genre, and Borderlands managed to capture the attention of fans around the world.
Now, a fourth game in the main series is coming up, and Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford recently talked about the game.
Borderlands 4 is currently set to be released on September 12, 2025, and the hype is real. This will be the first main game since 2019 and the first one that has been made for the current-gen consoles, as Borderlands 3 only got upgrades to be playable on current-gen consoles.
A lot of work has been put into the game, and it seems that the developers are also quite excited:
A lot of things have been revealed in this video, and if you have the time, we’d suggest watching (or at least listening) to the whole thing. But if you don’t have the time, we are going to bring you the gist of it, and that is Pitchford’s comment on the upcoming game.
“Like, look, sometimes we’re white-knuckling to the landing, you know? And we [have] got a lot of work to do – we’re working our asses off, but the momentum is insane,” he said with a lot of enthusiasm. “The velocity is insane. I don’t think we’ve ever been in a better spot this far from launch than we are right now with Borderlands 4. And I’m really stoked because I kind of need a game like this right now, you know? I kind of need this. So I’m stoked to play it.”
As you can see, the hype is really there, and we hope that after Borderlands 3, which was criticized for some of its aspects, Borderlands 4 will deliver a success similar to the first two games in the franchise.
