As far as modern vehicles are concerned, Toyota is brand that customers often return to. Toyota has proven that it is an innovative and pioneering company, and its cars have been atop the sales charts for decades now.

As the biggest Japanese auto company, Toyota is enjoying a brilliant reputation, but despite that, there is one segment of its business that has ben problematic for the company, regardlss of other factors.

Despite all the innovation, Toyota has’t been a major player when it comes to plug-ins. But, things might be changing!

Toyota has recently revealed a string of new models and the one we are going to present in this report might change the situation for the company when it comes to electric vehicles in general, especially plug-in hybrids.

Toyota’s hybrids have been doing well, yet the situation has been far from ideal when it comes to classic electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. But, the new RAV4 line, which is the company’s 2026 line, might be the game changer for the Japanese company.

So, why is the new series so special? All the models of the new RAV4 series will have 320 horsepower going to all four wheels, while the source will be 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, alongside a significantly larger battery when compared to previous models (details have yet to be revealed). On top of that, the RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid will have two electric motors as well.

In total, there will be four available trims, the SE, XSE, Woodland, and GR Sport, and the above-listed specs will be available in all four of these trims. What will depend on the trim, though, is the charging aspect.

Namely, the XSE and Woodland will get a classic EV-style fast-charging systm, which will allow for faster charging when compared with other plug-in models. According to the company, these trims will be able to go from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes on a DC charger; if you decide to charge at home, it will take several hours, though, but that is not a surprise.

One interesting thing here is that the new RAV4 plug-in hybrid line will use the classic CCS chargers like most conventional EVs, i.e., not the Tesla-style North American Charging (NACS) plug like the bZ and C-HR, as we have reported.

The reason for this is unclear, but this could be due to different development cycles for the EV vs. Toyota’s other models. This shouldn’t be an issue, though, because Tesla’s charging standards aren’t really applicable when it comes to hybrids at this point, and if you find a Tesla Level 2 charger, you can actually use an AC charging adapter to connect it to any other plug-in hybrid, so there’s a workaround there.

The new RAV4 models really look great and they are a major step forward then it comes to PHEVs for Toyota. The new models are expected to hit stores later this year. The prices haven’t been revealed, but the previous models started at $45,660, so we expect the initial prices for this model will be similar.
