Toyoda Gosei Wants to Market Motorcycle Airbags as Soon as Possible, Development Accelerated
Toyoda Gosei is one of the many companies that comprise the larger Toyota Group. The company was founded in 1949 and primarily manufactures automotive components. Toyota Motors has a 43% share in the company.
And while Toyoda Gosei is primarily associated with certain components and parts, they might be on their way to start a revolution in the motorcycle market.
The company is going to use its expertise when it comes to car safety to potentially create a functional airbag for motorcycles, which would be an amazing step forward when it comes to the safety of motorcycles.
Motorcycle safety is a major issue. And while the known safety equipment does keep drivers safe, there are still a lot of fatal accidents around the world, even among those who respect all the rules regarding safety.
This means that there is room for improvement there, and Toyoda Gosei might help in that aspect. Talks about an airbag system that would be inside the motorcycles have existed for years now, but we still don’t have a functional model at this point; airbag vests do exist.
News from Japan, though, reveal that Toyoda Gosei has recently conducted a crash test in-house with real vehicles and that the results seem promising. The company hasn’t confirmed any release window, but they did say that they’re planning on marketing their airbag as soon as possible.
The goal is to make an airbag that could fit into motorcycles, but also be functional in terms of protecting everyone on the move. The recent test examined the effects of a frontal collision, and how the model protected the driver in such cases.
The results seem to be promising, with Toyoda Gosei promising to use very realistic conditions and parameters during their tests.
