The developers behind No Man’s Sky, Hello Games, have just announced that the game is coming to Nintendo’s new console as a free upgrade. If you already own the game on Switch, you won’t need to pay anything extra to get the new Switch 2 Edition. It launches alongside the console on June 5 and brings some nice upgrades, including better graphics, smoother performance, and full multiplayer support.

This new version also includes cross-save and cross-play. That means you can keep your progress if you’re moving from the first Switch or even playing on another platform. According to Hello Games, they’ve spent about a year working on this version after getting early access to Nintendo’s new hardware.

The Switch 2 Edition comes with the latest big update to the game, called Beacons. This update is also being released for all other platforms today. It changes the way settlements work and adds a new system where you can become the mayor of towns you discover.

You’ll be able to build things like bars and fishing spots, help your settlers with their problems, and protect the town if it’s attacked.

Nintendo is also dropping several Switch 2 Editions of older games on launch day. Some of these, like Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, are included with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, while others will need to be bought separately. Games like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are getting visual upgrades when played on the new console. Some titles, such as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, now support GameShare sessions as well.

The update to No Man’s Sky is a pretty big deal, adding deeper gameplay and new ways to interact with the world. Hello Games seems excited about the Switch 2 launch and the future of the game on Nintendo’s latest system.
