Game modding is a process that can be very fun if you have the time and the will to explore different possibilities. Of course, there’s the know-how, but if you’re into modding, then the knowledge will be there.

In light of that fact, a modder recently shared a video of a game mod that combines two of the most popular games of all time.

This mod blends the world of Super Mario with Minecraft into a fully functional Nintendo 64 game that has a lot of potential to become even bigger, despite being just a mode and not an official release.

Of course, this is not the first time that modders have played with Mario games and Minecraft is, well, a heaven for modders since the game itself is based on creativity and creating new things. So, what does the mod in question look like? Here is the video:

As you can see, this is a pretty interesting take on both franchises and for some reason – most likely due to the fact that the Mario game in question is older – it works perfectly and it looks very authentic.

The mod is fully playable on the Nintendo 64, as the video reveals, but the author – Arthurtilly – does claim that this is just an initial version and that it only has a limited set of features. He does plan to add more in the future, and they include:

  • Flowing water and lava
  • A proper lighting system and day/night cycle
  • Saving and loading of worlds (even on console)
  • Terrain features such as trees and vegetation to make the world more lively
  • An inventory system

We don’t know what will happen to this mod going forward, but it is certainly an interesting one and we wanted to share it with you in case you wanted to experience what a blend between Mario and Minecraft actually looks like.
