Call of Duty is one of the biggest franchises when it comes to FPS games and there is absolutely no doubt that the whole franchise has earned a firm place in the history of gaming.

Of course, after starting as a classic FPS, the franchise has since evolved and it now includes mobile games as well, which is a fact that fans of the franchise already know, but it’s relevant for the topic of this report.

Namely, a recent report revealed some basic financial numbers for the popular Call of Duty: Mobile and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile games, and we are going to share them with you here.

As you probably know, Activision pulled the plug on Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile on May 18, as the mobile battle royale slid into the history book. At the same time, Call of Duty: Mobile is very much alive.

Many fans have been angry with Activision for “killing” Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, but it seems that there was a very good (i.e., financial) reason to do so, as the game simply did not perform that well.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile had a total of 45 million pre-registrations, but when the game came out, it simply did not meet the developer’s demands. The game, we have to say, managed to earn $1.4 million in revenue within four days of release in March 2024, but since then – it hasn’t been doing that well.

“In terms of revenue, since launch in March 2024, Call of Duty Warzone on mobile has grossed around $17m (App Magic figures, excludes Google’s and Apple’s 30% cut). By comparison, Call of Duty Mobile made more than that last month alone,” a report claims.

So, when one game manages to earn in a month the amount that another earns in a whole year, then it’s time to reconsider whether the second game is useful. It probably did not seem economically wise for Activion to invest in the maintenance of a game that outperformed on the market and we now know more as to why the game was axed.
