You Can Now Buy a Hyundai on Amazon — Just Like Any Other Item

Buying a new car just got easier, especially for people who love shopping on Amazon. Starting in January 2025, Amazon and Hyundai have teamed up to let people buy Hyundai cars directly from Amazon’s website. This is the first time Amazon is selling cars, and they hope to grow this new business.

While buying cars online isn’t new (Tesla has been doing it for a while), most car companies haven’t made it super smooth—until now. Hyundai and Amazon say this new system will help take away the stress of going to the dealership. Once you buy your car online, you just go to the Hyundai store to pick it up.

This is the kind of experience we want for our customers—somewhere where they can take delivery immediately,” said Fan Jin, Amazon’s director of vehicle sales.

There is a small catch: only certain Hyundai dealerships can join this Amazon program. They have to apply and meet Amazon’s standards.

Amazon is not going to be right for every dealer, and not every dealer is going to be right for Amazon,” said Jin. “We’re really looking for high-quality dealers who are forward-thinking and as customer-obsessed as we are.

Even so, the program is already available in 54 markets across the U.S., covering about 71% of Hyundai’s sales.

The process is meant to be very simple. Just go to Amazon.com, search for Hyundai cars near you, choose your trim and features, then click checkout—just like you do when buying anything else on Amazon.

You’ll also be able to make a down payment and sign all the paperwork online. No need to visit a dealership, and no pressure to haggle for a better price.

Here’s the price. It shows you what rebates you qualify for, incentives that are available, and then you decide if you go through financing,” said Marty Mallick, Amazon’s vice president of worldwide corporate business development.

Hyundai Capital will offer financing at first, and more options will be added over time.

If you want to take a car for a spin before buying, you’ll still need to go to a dealership. Amazon won’t let you book test drives online—for now.

We’re looking at the dealership as the hub of the physical experience,” Mallick explained.

The good news? Since Amazon only lists cars that dealers actually have in stock, you should be able to pick up your car just a few days after buying it.

Also, if you don’t love the car, Hyundai’s Shopper Assurance program still applies—you can exchange it for another Hyundai within three days.

As part of the deal, Hyundai cars will also get Amazon Alexa starting in 2025. You’ll be able to use voice commands in your car, just like you do at home.

You’re bringing the smart home experience to your vehicle in a very intelligent way,” Mallick said. That means you’ll be able to open your garage or turn on lights at home from your car.

Hyundai also picked Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its main cloud provider. This will help Hyundai teams work faster and smarter across all departments, from car design to production.

We’re really focused on helping customers like Hyundai achieve their goals and innovations they want to bring to their customers,” said Wendy Bauer, AWS’s vice president for automotive and manufacturing.

This partnership covers everything from buying a car, to driving it, to how Hyundai builds it—and it’s all powered by Amazon.
