The Audi Q5 has been one of Audi’s best and most popular models in recent years, as well as the manufacturer’s best-selling model in the United States. But, owners of certain models should take care, as their car might be faulty.

Namely, Audi has been hit with a series of warranty claims about faulty oil cylinders that could potentially set the owners’ cars on fire, which is a serious issue, as you might have guessed.

Audi has, of course, reacted, and we have all the details here, so if you want to know more, be sure to keep reading!

So, what seems to be the issue? As per the information we have, the screws in the car’s oil cylinder head may loosen over time, creating a potential fire risk for each vehicle, thus endangering people and the car itself. This happens, as the company confirmed, because of varying torque levels that are used when tightening the cylinder head cover screws. This could lead to the screws becoming looser, which, in turn, can lead to oil leaks.

As you can imagine, these leaks, if they come in contact with any warm part of the engine, could result in a massive fire. Of course, if you see any smoke coming from the engine, you should immediately stop your car and call for help, but a strange smell from the engine could also be an indicator, so be wary of it.

In case you wanted to know, a total of 89,417 Q5s are encompassed by the recall. These include 78,313 regular 2022-2024 Audi Q5 models built between July 24, 2021, and August 23, 2024, as well as 11,104 Audi Q5 Sportbacks from the 2022-2024MYs, produced from August 7, 2021, to July 2, 2024.

The company has been made aware of the issue back in 2023. They issued an instruction in 2024, and since 2023, a total of 2,539 warranty claims potentially related to the issue have been made, with 11 fires, though there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities. Thankfully.

Be that as it may, we have revealed all the information you needed to know, and we’d just like to remind you to check your car if you have one of the affected models and if you notice anything, be sure to take the car to your local dealer as soon as possible.
