Toyota and Lexus Will Merge EV and Hybrid Models to Make Things Simpler

Toyota, as well as its luxury branch Lexus, have been among the most reliable, as well as innovative companies in the auto industry for decades now. Toyota is Japan’s biggest cr company and in light of that fact, it has often led the industry with its examples.
At this moment, as you know, the industry is in a very volatile and delicate phase. Trump’s tariffs threaten to cause problems all around the world, and the U.S. government’s fight against EVs could also be a potential problem.
With the market being so complex, Toyota and Lexus have decided to change things up with a decision that could prove to be groundbreaking in the future.
As you know, until now, Toyota and Lexus have had separate “traditional” models and separate EV models. This is not unique, as most companies have the same practice, but that could soon change, at least when Toyota is concerned.
As you probably remember, we’ve recently reported on the new bZ4X (which will be renamed to bZ). bZ Woodland and the 2026 C-HR EV, as well Lexus’ electric RZ. All these new models will be separate and Toyota has concluded that this might be confusing.
And yes, when you have so many different models on the market, with all these different features and traits, it might be confusing for you, as a buyer, to distinguish between all these models.
That is why, going forward, Toyota and Lexus won’t be making separate standalone EVs and ICE vehicles, but rather, they are going to build models that run either type of powertrain.
This means that we’ll have one new model that will be available in several variants, which will make it easier for customers to follow the new lines, and for the companies to produce them.
It remains to be seen how this will impact the industry as a whole, but this is definitely an interesting approach that we’ll be following, so be sure to keep following us for more updates.
