Porsche Delays the All-Electric 718 Boxster and Cayman. Again.

As you know quite well, Porsche has been one of the biggest and most reliable brands when it comes to luxury vehicles. The German company has been a synonym for quality for decades now, and while it has a loyal customer base, the future is troublesome.
Namely, Porsche has been a pioneering company when it comes to electrifying its vehicles, and due to the recent changes in the EV market and the auto market in general, this might pose a problem for the company.
We have already reported about these potential problems, and now, the company has delayed its two electric models yet again, which is a clear sign that things are not going as well as planned.
As stated, Porsche is bracing for a rough year. It’s not just the economic situation, although Trump’s tariffs and his stance against electric vehicles are something that contributes to the insecurity, as well as the problems for the company.
And while Porsche will do what it can in order to make the impact as light as possible, it is no secret that certain cuts and changes will have to be made, especially in the EV department and in relation to the company’s plan to electrify 80% of its worldwide fleet by 2030.
This will probably not happen now and one of the clear signs that this policy is, sadly, changing is yet another delay of the all-electric versions of the 718 Boxster and Cayman models.
Last month, the company said that the models would be available in 2026, but we can now confirm that the models have been delayed until 2027. At least. It’s a combination of a smaller demand related to the policies mentioned above, but also the fact that Porsche’s main battery supplier, the Swedish battery maker Northvolt, went bankrupt recently.
Northvolt’s batteries have been the primary source for Porsche’s sports models (on the other hand, some other models use the LG Chem batteries from South Korea), so the bankruptcy was a major blow for Porsche as well, seeing how they will have to find another source or completely abandon their initial plans.
