When The Outer Worlds was released back in 2019, the game was a pretty successful title. It received generally positive reviews from critics, and it was a commercial success. Building on that, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a sequel was announced.

And while we know that The Outer Worlds 2 is coming out later this year, the exact release date for the highly anticipated game still hasn’t been confirmed.

We’ve seen several trailers and images from the upcoming game, and the fans are more or less satisfied, as the footage from the game looks stunning. Now, a new trailer highlighting the game’s combat has been released.

Before we continue, here is the actual trailer:

The footage reveals a lot about the sequel’s combat system, while also giving us a glimpse at the world of The Outer Worlds 2, as well as some new in-game footage. In short, the game’s combat features include:

  • Introduces parkour mechanics that allow climb, vault, and slide
  • Enemies now employ advanced tactics, including taking cover and using grenades
  • Obsidian focused on making weapons feel satisfying from the start, while also integrating RPG mechanics that enhance gunplay based on player stats and skills
  • Encourages various playstyles by offering light, medium, and heavy armor options
  • Removal of level scaling (enemies have static stats throughout the game), allowing for self-challenging gameplay where players can revisit earlier locations with improved gear
  • Players can use new gadgets during combat, like tactical time dilation and shields
  • Difficulty settings: from story mode to very hard
  • Ranged combat is prioritized, but melee options are available as well

There certainly are some interesting improvements and additions, so when the game actually comes out later this year, we believe that the fans will be satisfied with the final product.
