Ultimate Spider-Man is was a popular Spider-Man video game released in 2005. It was praised for its comic book art style and the ability to play as both Spider-Man and Venom. The game follows Spider-Man as he tries to stop Trask Industries, who are experimenting with the Venom symbiote.

A sequel, Ultimate Spider-Man 2, was planned but never released. The game was still in early stages of development when it was canceled. The developers at Treyarch made some early concepts, art, and a story outline for the game.

However, Activision, the game’s publisher, decided not to move forward with it. They didn’t believe the game would sell well enough, especially after comparing the sales of Ultimate Spider-Man to the movie tie-in game for Spider-Man 2, which came out a year earlier. Activision felt another movie tie-in game would do better in sales, so they canceled the sequel.

Even though the sequel never came out, a prequel called Spider-Man: Battle for New York was released in 2006 for handheld Nintendo systems.

Now, some new details regarding the canceled Spider-Man game have been revealed. According to leaks, Wolverine was set to make a return. Doctor Doom was also planned to appear, though in a smaller role, meaning he wouldn’t have been a major character in the story.

Daredevil and his notable villains, The Hand, were going to be included, bringing another layer of Marvel’s universe into the game. Green Goblin was intended to be the second playable character, meaning players would have had the chance to control him alongside Spider-Man, offering a different perspective in the gameplay. This is something we’ve also learned a while ago, so this information isn’t exactly new.

Kitty Pryde was going to have a supporting role. The storyline for the game was loosely based on the Ultimate Spider-Man: Death of a Goblin comic, which revolves around the death of the Green Goblin character in the Ultimate universe. Unfortunately, the game was never finished, so these plans never came to life.

The source that revealed the details collaborated with Ultimate Spider-Man artist Ian Hosfeld, and the video also showcases a never-before-seen detailed map of the new planned area (the plans begin at 5:52).
