BMW M Confirms New Halo Supercar Is On the Way
Big news for car fans! BMW M has confirmed that a brand-new halo supercar is coming soon. While there aren’t many details yet, it looks like the car could capture the spirit of the legendary BMW M1 from the 1970s.
BMW is joining the trend of making very expensive and limited-edition cars. This new model will be a part of BMW M’s performance lineup, giving fans something they’ve wanted for a long time: a modern M1 that mixes classic style with modern performance.
This news comes shortly after BMW announced that the Skytop concept, first shown last year at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, will enter production. Only 50 units of the Skytop will be made, and the price is rumored to be around $500,000.
The success of the Skytop project has encouraged BMW to create more exclusive cars. This time, the new models will proudly carry the M badge.
Sylvia Neubauer, BMW M’s Vice President of customers, brand, and sales, gave a little more information about the company’s plans during an interview with AutoExpress. She said: “BMW’s strategy is to have a series of small-series additions that we offer to the markets. There will be something coming at Villa d’Este this year, and probably some future small-series editions with the ‘M’ designation.”
When asked if there could be a special M model inspired by the M1, Neubauer answered: “Definitely, such halo cars clearly position the brand. They make it very, very desirable. They have that positive spillover effect on the brand and on the product portfolio. You’re making a certain customer group very, very happy with these dream cars. Even those that cannot afford the car admire the brand. This will be part of our future road map as well.”
While we don’t know exactly what the new car will look like, fans are hoping for something exciting that brings back the magic of the old M1. BMW promises that even people who can’t buy these rare cars will still find reasons to love the brand.
We will likely see more about this special project later this year at Villa d’Este.
