Toyota is Japan’s biggest auto company, but while Toyota produces all kinds of models, it is best known for its urban and electric models. But, while the urban vehicles are the best known, you probably know that Toyota also has a sports cars section.

The Toyota Supra is a very famous line of sports cars that first appeared way back in 1978. And while the Supra is a popular brand name, it has been neglected by Toyota for the most part.

This is why many have been fearing that the Supra is heading into the past, but based on the most recent information, it seems that we shouldn’t give up on the Supra just yet!

Toyota is in “Wait-and-See Mode” as far as Future Prices are Concerned

Despite the fact that the Supra has something to offer to us, Toyota hasn’t been very caring towards the sports car, as you know. The most recent model, the Toyota GR Supra, was released in 2019, and since then, the company hasn’t really been taking care of the brand.

The fifth-generation Supra is going to the history books in 2026, after a solid 6-year run, and the future remains uncertain. And while Toyota has indicated that the Supra simply wasn’t financially worth it that much to invest more in it, it seems that a demand is there and that buyers do want a new Supra model.

In the case of the GR, that model came to the market 17 years(!!!) after the previous one had been released back in 2002. A 17-year gap between models is a lifetime when it comes to the auto industry, so with the GR Supra becoming a thing of the past, many are wondering when a new model could appear… or even if a new model will appear.

In a recent interview, Toyota Motor North America’s Senior Vice President of Product Planning and Strategy, Cooper Ericksen, said that there is hope for a new model. “It would be logical that we would have a next-gen Supra. But when and how is still TBD [to be determined],” he said.

As you can see, it seems that Toyota hasn’t completely discarded the whole idea, but it also seems that a new Supra is not the company’s priority, which doesn’t surprise us considering the current state of the market and the competition Toyota is facing when it comes to sports cars.

But, Ericksen did say that “our goal [is] to have a gap that is significantly less” when it comes to the new generation, so we might not have to wait until 2036 for a new model, which would be the desireable option.
