Shuntaro Furukawa Confirms Flexible Pricing Policy for Upcoming Nintendo Games and Hardware

Nintendo is a giant in the gaming industry as you know, but the company, while making great consoles and games, does have its fair share of critics, who are not satisfied with just about every aspect of the company’s policies.
Among the more commonly criticized things are the company’s prices, as consumers generally think that Nintendo’s products are overpriced. It’s not that they are giving us subpar products, but regardless of the quality, there is a perception that Nintendo’s prices could be lower.
This is one of the questions addressed during the recent investor Q&A, where Shuntaro Furukawa talked about the pricing policy of the company.
Investor Q&As are often interesting because we get answers to some interesting questions that would otherwise not have been addressed by anyone. One of the questions asked was how Nintendo was going to handle pricing in the future, both when it comes to games and to its hardware.
“The prices of Nintendo Switch 2 products are determined by comprehensively considering the market environment in each region,” Furukawa revealed in his answer, as was published.
“In addition to the manufacturing costs, the price of the hardware is determined by taking into account various factors such as the impression customers have of the price, exchange rates that are significantly different from the time of the release of the Nintendo Switch, and the market environment in each region,” he continued. “In addition to the same factors, the price of software is determined by taking into account factors such as increased costs due to increased game capacity and longer development periods.”
“As for the future policy, we will continue to consider appropriate prices for each software title as in the past. As for hardware, although there are special factors such as tariffs, we will carefully consider the factors I have just explained and determine the price,” Furukawa concluded.
