Doug Bowser Confirms Nintendo Will Maintain Their DEI Policies, Despite Trump’s Wishes

The recently re-elected U.S. President Donald Trump has become a synonym for chaos. From his arbitrary internal and economic policies, to some dubious foreign policy claims, Trump has caused a lot of problem for a large number of people, potentially even the whole world.
Among his many questionable decisions is the one to fight the DEI policies of American companies, as Trump wants to see them gone. And while there have been reports that companies such as Disney are folding, one company seemingly won’t be doing that.
In a relatively recent interview he gave to the Brazilian media, Nintendo of America CEO Doug Bowser (what a fitting name!) confirmed that the company won’t be moving away from its DEI policies.
The question of DEI policies has been a controversial one in American society for some time now. The former administration pushed for such policies to reduce social inequality, but the current administration is against such policies. And while Trump can do little to directly forbid companies to hire who they want, he has made his intentions clear.
And as the President, he certainly has ways – indirect ones – to pressure certain companies into bending to his will.
Nintendo is a company that has been promoting diversity, which is partially due to its very international character. And while we don’t have all the details about the company’s internal policies, the company can definitely be considered DEI-friendly.
This why Nintendo of America’s new CEO, Doug Bowser, was asked about Trump’s claims and whether Nintendo would succumb to the pressure. But, Bowser was clear, saying that Nintendo has no intention of pulling the plug on its DEI policies:
We always want to attract the best talent we can and retain that talent. We also believe that it’s important for those talents to be diverse from the point of view of their backgrounds, their experiences, and their understandings because our players are diverse. So we strive to have a diversity that reflects our players in our organization. This is something that has been in place for years, before people really started using the acronym DEI [diversity, equity and inclusion]. And it will continue to be in place. It’s important to us.
