The current state of the market is very volatile due to numerous factors, as you can assume. There is a certain level of insecurity there and companies are sometimes forced to make difficult decisions to keep being profitable.

One of the companies that has been having problems recently is Intel. The company has already executed several rounds of layoffs and based on the most recent report, another round is coming soon.

It is expected that the latest financial reports from Intel will come this week and based on the numbers, there could be another wave of layoffs, although this one could be a bit different and it could have a positive impact in the long run.

If you remember, this won’t be the first wave of layofss for Intel, as the company has held numerous rounds of layoffs over the past 12-18 months. Back in 2024, the company cut a total of 15,000 jobs and ended up on “just” 108,900 people by the end of the year. If the previous number is, indeed correct, the company might be falling below 100,000 employees very soon.

Namely, the latest report we have – an insider one – claims that Intel is looking to fire 20% of its employees, which would be around 22,000 people. This means that the company would now be on around 85,000 employees, which is a significant decrease in just one year.

But, as it seems, the experts won’t be losing their jobs. Intel is, as it seems, looking to reduce its administrarion, so the people getting fired would be, based on the report, those working on administrative duties.

The company wants to “streamline management and rebuild an engineering-driven culture,” and they think that by reducing the overall bureaucracy within the company, they could achieve that goal, so this wave might actually have some positive aspects in the long run.
