Sanbox VR Is Developing a New ‘Stranger Things’ VR Experience, ‘Catalyst,’ Coming Out in Late 2025

You might remember the 2017 PS4-exclusive Stranger Things: The VR Experience game, which was a solid hit for the PlayStation VR segment and it gave us a different and interesting approach to the popular series.
A second, standalone VR game, Stranger Things VR, was released on multiple major VR platforms starting on February 22, 2024 and it was also a solid hit among the fans of the game who preferred VR gaming.
Now, another Stranger Things VR project is coming, this time by Sandbox VR, and we have all the details for you in this report.
The fandom is slowly preparing for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, which is coming out later this year. In light of that, it seems that Netflix is going to expand the experience with a new VR project similar to its earlier Squid Game Virtuals and Rebel Moon: The Descent projects.
Namely, Sandbox VR is preparing to launch a new VR project that will allow players to “physically step into the story they’ve watched unfold over the past seasons,” as Sandbox VR Founder and CEO, Steve Zhao, said in the official press release.
The project will allow players to enter the world of Stranger Things and visit several iconic locations. There, they will be able to use their special abilities to fend off the horrifying creatures they encounter there. The studio also plans to include haptic feedback vests, adding another layer of immersion to the experience of the players.
The project will be titled Stranger Things: Catalyst and we can confirm that the players will need to visit one of the Sandbox VR locations to play the game, which is somewhat of a downside, but with the project releasing in November, around the time of the fifth season’s premiere, it might just motivate a lot of fans to go and try out this new experience.
