PS5 Pro Update Rumor Big Boost to Frame Rates and Resolution

A new rumor suggests that Sony is working on a major update for the PS5 Pro. If true, this update could significantly improve game performance, offering higher frame rates and resolutions.

The update focuses on PSSR, an AI-driven upscaling software that has always been a key feature of the PS5 Pro. According to the YouTube tech channel Moore’s Law Is Dead, a major rework of PSSR is in development. The channel even suggests that this upgrade is so substantial it could be called “PSSR 2”.

The rumor hints that developers will be allowed to lower game resolutions to improve performance. The new version of PSSR would then compensate for the drop in image quality, allowing for smoother gameplay while still looking sharp.

If this rumor is accurate, Sony is aiming for some impressive numbers. The PS5 Pro could potentially support 4K resolution at 120 frames per second, and even 8K resolution at 60 frames per second. That’s a massive improvement over the current capabilities of the console.

We’ve already seen PSSR in action with games like Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which uses the tech to enhance visuals while maintaining 60fps. However, not all games use PSSR effectively, as it needs to be properly implemented by developers. This means that even if the update happens, it doesn’t guarantee every game will run better.
