Land Rover Reveals Discovery 5 Upgrade and New Special Editions
The Land Rover Discovery has been one of the company’s oldest models still on the market. The first generation was released back in 1989, and the company is still releasing new models.
The car is currently in its fifth generation, and the company has confirmed that a new, updated version of the Land Rover Discovery 5 is coming, alongside two special editions of the same model.
In this report, we are going to bring you the details related to the upcoming new models, so keep reading if you want to know more!
The main model will come with a light update. Don’t expect much, but we can confirm that all the Discovery models will now feature a a mild hybrid 3.0-litre straight-six diesel that’s badged D350 and will take up 345bhp and 516lb ft of torque. On top of this, the standard S, Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE and Metropolitan Edition cars will receive enhanced specifications.
But, if some of you might consider the Discovery 5 an outdated car, Land Rover is also releasing two special editions – the Tempest and the Gemini. Interestingly enough, we can confirm that both these names have a historical basis, as they have been taken from the previous Discovery 1 and 2 development plans.
What do we know about these models? Well, the Tempest will have a special matte protective film over the paint and a contrasting ‘Petra Copper Gloss’ roof and accents. The 22in diamond-turned wheels will have the same color, while the interior will include special badging, aluminium detailing, and black leather.
The Gemini will have a special “Sedona Red” version (other models will apparently have six different color schemes, the Gemini will be the only red one), alongside a standard contrast black roof, 21in silver wheels, and the obligatory badging. The interior will have a fridge between the front seats, ‘media holders’ for rear seat passengers, and three-zone climate control.
As for the prices, the basic models will be available for around £64,810 (cca. $86,200) in the UK, with the Gemini costing £72,505 (cca. $96,500) without upgrades and the Tempest £83,720 (cca. $114,700), also without any upgrades.
