After being revealed last year, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad finally came out on May 21, 2025 and the players have had the time to explore the game and give their verdict on whether the game is good.

An action RPG game, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad has been advertised as a revolutionary game when it comes to Game of Thrones games, but based on the reactions, the game hasn’t delivered.

Namely, the first reviews for the game are in, and based on the numbers, they are mixed, which means that the game failed to deliver on what it promised.

This action-adventure RPG has been described as a “story-driven action-adventure RPG, bringing the world of Westeros to life with remarkable detail and never-before seen scale.” The launch trailer, released two days ago, confirms that the developers, indeed, had such an intention:

The game was released for mobile platforms (iOS and Android), as well as for the PC (via Steam), but it seems that it’s not the “best game ever,” as the developers wanted us to believe.

And while the mobile reviews are not that bad – a 4.6/5 star rating in the Apple App Store, and a 4.2/5 in the Google Play Store – the Steam reviews have the game listed as a “firm” Mixed, which is somewhat underwhelming.

The game did offer us a great story as well as an incredibly detailed world with a lot of interesting features, but that obviously isn’t enough to distinguish it from other similar games, according to Steam users.

Based on the reviews, it seems that the players are complaining about the game’s microtransactions, as well as the fact that it hasn’t been able to progress from a traditional mobile game.

“Game of Phones “Winter is coming… with micro transactions,” one user said. “The game was fun in beta when they didn’t demand money for literally doing anything in the game. £40 battlepass. £40 cosmetics, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ subscription, insane timegates, every aspect that might be remotely enjoyable is monetised,” another one was more detailed.

“Wile it is playable and fun enough for any fan of the GOT series, but dies there,” said one user who gave the game a positive review, also citing the microtransactions and some features as a minus.

All in all, the game isn’t horrible, but it seems that it failed to deliver on its initial promises.
