‘Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’ Lead Writer Reveals She Was Initially Hired as a Voice Actress

The world of art – and we can consider video games an art form these days – has been full of wonderful and beautiful stories, and the recent success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one such story.

The game was released with little to no hype, but almost as soon as it was released it exploded in the most beautiful way. The game is by far the best game of 2025 and some are calling it one of the best games of all time.

But, the story of how the game came to be was a very turbulent one, and lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen recently revealed how her journey started in a completely different place before she became the lead writer for the game.

As you know, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen and Guillaume Broche are the two “culprits” for the success of the game, as they wrote the main story. The whole concept was Broche’s idea dna Svedberg-Yen entered the whole idea later, and in a way you wouldn’t really expect.

Namely, as it has been revealed, Broche started the idea as a passion project,t and he sent out numerous calls on social media platforms for people willing to join his project. Among the calls were those for voice actors, and Svedberg-Yen explained that she decided to apply.

“I saw a post on Reddit by Guillaume asking for voice actors to record something for free for a demo. I was like: ‘I’ve never done that, it sounds kinda cool’, so I sent him an audition,” she said.

And while Broche liked the audition – it was for a major female role, although it hasn’t been specified which one – their collaboration evolved, and she soon switched to the role of lead writer along with Broche.

And the rest is history!
