Chevrolet Is Now the Second Biggest Electric Vehicle Brand In The United States, Beating Ford For The Spot

Chevrolet is now the second biggest electric vehicle brand in the United States, beating Ford for the spot. This change happened after GM shared its sales numbers through May 2025, showing that Chevy sold 37,000 EVs since the beginning of the year.
Ford, on the other hand, sold 34,000 during the same time, and its EV sales even went down in May.
The news came from General Motors, which released a full report about how all its brands are doing. It turns out Chevy is now the fastest-growing EV brand in the country. Earlier this year, it was already picking up speed, and now it has officially passed Ford.
One reason why Chevy is doing so well could be the Equinox EV. GM didn’t say how many of each model it sold, but the Equinox is a big deal. It starts at $33,600, which is cheaper than Ford’s Mustang Mach-E that starts at $37,995. Since Ford doesn’t have a cheaper option, it makes sense that more people are choosing Chevy.
Chevy also offers other electric vehicles like the Blazer EV, the Silverado EV, and a few others that Ford doesn’t really compete with. That could also explain why Chevy is pulling ahead.
In total, GM sold over 62,000 electric vehicles from January through May. That’s a big jump from before. In fact, for the first part of the second quarter, GM’s share of the EV market was about 15.5%, which is more than double what it was last year. May was one of the best months ever for GM’s electric vehicle sales.
The company has electric models across a wide range, including big ones like the Escalade IQ, which is one of the largest fully electric SUVs on sale. Other models in the mix include the GMC Sierra EV and the GMC Hummer EV.
Rory Harvey, who is GM’s executive vice president and president of global markets, said in a statement, “Customers are responding in record numbers to our world-class portfolio of electric and gas-powered vehicles. In the first two months of the second quarter, we more than doubled our EV sales compared to the same period last year.”
Right now, Tesla is still way out in front as the top EV brand in America, but Chevy is climbing fast and has now taken the number two spot from Ford.
