Xiaomi, the Chinese tech company known mostly for its phones, just pulled off something huge in the car world. Their electric sedan, the SU7 Ultra, broke the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for production EVs. The car completed the lap in just 7:04.957, and that officially makes it the fastest production electric vehicle around the famous German track.

This is a big deal because the previous record was held by Porsche’s Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach Package. Porsche has been building high-performance cars for decades, and Xiaomi has only just entered the car business.

Even more surprising? The SU7 Ultra was also faster than the $3 million Rimac Nevera Time Attack. Xiaomi’s lap was about three-tenths of a second quicker than the Rimac and more than 2.5 seconds faster than the Porsche.

To prove it’s legit, Xiaomi posted a video of the lap on their YouTube channel. They didn’t say who the driver was, but you can clearly see the car hitting 346 kph, or about 215 mph, on the long straight stretch of the track. That’s just short of the car’s claimed top speed of 217 mph.

The SU7 Ultra has some wild numbers. Xiaomi says it uses three motors to make 1,527 horsepower. It can go from 0 to 62 mph in just 1.98 seconds. Even though it’s a high-performance machine, the starting price is about 529,900 yuan, which is just under $74,000 based on today’s rates.

Xiaomi says this record lap happened on the very first try. For a brand-new company to pull that off is pretty wild. Sure, these cars aren’t easy to get in the U.S. right now because of tariffs and other trade stuff, and people still have questions about build quality and how reliable Chinese EVs really are. But one thing’s for sure — the speed is real.
