Audi’s New Sports Coupé Could Draw Inspiration from the Original TT

You’ll probably remember that Audi retired their TT and R8 supercars in the past 18 months, which means that the company is now – after a very long time – without a dedicated two-door sports car. And while the market does justify such a decision, it seems that it won’t be forever.
Recently, the company’s CEO Gernot Döllner was asked about the future of the sportscars and he not only said that Audi would reconsider a return to that aspect, but that sportscars are an essential part of Audi’s story.
“For sure. That’s part of the brand’s DNA, and we have to find the right way, timing wise, to integrate it into our portfolio,” he said to the press, and while he was not direct about how and when it might happen – seeing how the company is in the midst of a major restructuring with many job cuts – he added that the “broad view on where Audi should be and where Audi is heading – and thinking in that direction, sports cars are an integral part of such a set-up.”
In light of that, he hinted that the new designs could be inspired by some older models, citing that Audi’s new designer Massimo Frascella is a big fan of older models.
If you’re wondering which one is in particular focus, it is the old Audi TT model, which could be used as a basis when Audi finally decides to go back to making new sportscars in the (we hope near) future.
