Assassin’s Creed Shadows was recently released, and for the most part, players are very satisfied with how the game turned out. But, as you probably remember, the game’s development was rough and it faced several controversies and even delays.

The biggest delay happened when the release of Star Wars Outlaws proved to be a flop, as the game underperformed both critically and commercially. At the time, Ubisoft said that Shadows would be delayed, claiming “learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release” were the reason.

But, as it turns out, according to the game’s creative director, Jonathan Dumont, it seems that the Outlaws flop had little to do with the Shadows delay.

In a recent talk to the press, Dumont was asked whether the failure of Outlaws influenced Shadows and its development, as Ubisoft did not want another flop. This was the popular belief at the time, but it seems that it wasn’t exactly like that.

“Not really. We were basically trying to make the most polished game that we [can],” Dumont said on whether Outlaws had any effect on Shadows. “Our game was there, so just making sure that we don’t have bugs and that the experience is clean for people.”

He also said that “there’s a lot of things that we needed to take a look at,” which means that they wanted to deliver a good game regardless of the other games. In most aspects, they did and the game is now enjoying solid success, which means that the delay was a smart decision.
