Industry experts believe Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 could have the biggest launch in gaming history, with analysts predicting a higher price tag but massive sales.

While Nintendo has not officially revealed the price, analysts expect it to cost $400 or more—a jump from the original Switch’s $299 price tag. Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda suggests it could even reach $499, citing the increased cost of the new Nvidia chip.

“The original Switch’s Nvidia chip is estimated to cost $80 per unit, while the Switch 2’s chip is likely to be in the $130-$150 range,” Yasuda explained.

Other analysts, including Serkan Toto, Yijia Zhai of UBS, and Robin Zhu of Sanford C Bernstein, also predict the price will be at least $100 more than the original Switch.

Despite the potential price increase, experts believe the Switch 2 will sell incredibly well.

“They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price,” said Serkan Toto.

The strong launch is expected due to a powerful lineup of games, including new titles from Mario Kart, 3D Mario, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4. There are also rumors that third-party hits like Call of Duty will be available from launch.

According to Robin Zhu, Nintendo is preparing between 6 to 8 million units for the first day, making it the biggest console launch ever. To compare, the original Switch sold 2.7 million units in its first month, while PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 each sold 4.5 million units in their first quarters.

Looking further ahead, Macquarie Capital analyst Hiroshi Yamashina predicts the Switch 2 could sell 20 million units in its first year.

Nintendo is set to officially reveal more details during a Nintendo Direct on April 2. Fans expect to hear the release date, pricing, and possibly news on Metroid Prime 4.

For now, all signs point to Nintendo’s next console being a massive success, even before it officially launches.
