As a tech and gaming site, we always like to report on good news from the industry, but in recent weeks and months, we have had the unfortunate displeasure to talk about issues in the gaming industry and this report is going to be a similar one. Sadly.

You’ll probably know Polish developer People Can Fly for their work on Gears of War, but they also published Painkiller and worked on Fortnite: Save the World. The company has had numerous projects in the works, but it seems that they might have to change their plans.

Namely, according to an official statement, the company is suspending two of its major projects and, what pains to hear the most, reducing the number of its staff.

The sad announcement came in the form of a social media post, in which People Can Fly confirmed they’re suspending Project Bifrost and Project Gemini, but also that they are laying off some staff members:

The company hasn’t provided any details about the layoffs in terms of how many people will lose their jobs, so we can’t get into any details, but this is a sad example of an increasing trend we’ve been observing for months now.

As for the games, the company confirmed that “the suspension of the Gemini project is a consequence of the fact that the Publisher has not presented us with a draft of the subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement covering the terms and conditions of further milestones on Project Gemini and the lack of communication from the Publisher as to its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project.”

As for Project Bifrost, the game “was suspended due to the above and the analysis of the Group’s cash flow, which showed a lack of prospects for securing organisational resources and funds necessary to continue the production and release of this project.”
