One UI 8.5 Brings a Feature Every Android Phone Should Adopt
Samsung recently launched the beta version of One UI 8.5, and it includes a standout feature that has quickly impressed early testers. While many updates focus on minor tweaks, this version introduces a completely overhauled and extremely customizable Quick Settings panel. It is a level of personalization that sets a new bar for the competition.
Quick Settings are a fundamental part of the Android experience, yet most manufacturers limit how much you can change them. Google’s Pixel phones allow for resizing and arranging, while OnePlus offers basic addition and removal options. However, none of these brands come close to the freedom Samsung now provides.
Previously, users were forced to keep certain elements on their screen, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and media player controls. One UI 8.5 changes the game by allowing you to remove almost anything you want. You can finally delete mandatory toggles and even the brightness or volume sliders if you choose.
Beyond just removing items, the new system lets you place shortcuts anywhere on the grid. You can add tools like Google Wallet, a QR scanner, or a Google TV remote and position them exactly where they fit your workflow. This flexibility even extends to separating volume and brightness controls or arranging them vertically.
Testing this on the Galaxy S25 reveals just how powerful these changes are in daily use. You can create a unique layout with a media player at the top, followed by your most-used large toggles, and a row of smaller utility icons below. It only takes a few minutes to build an interface that looks and feels completely different from the default.
This update proves that Samsung is still leading the pack when it comes to user interface flexibility. Many testers are already hoping that this depth of control will eventually make its way to Pixel devices and other Android skins. It transforms the Quick Settings panel from a static menu into a tool fully tailored to the user.
Currently, the One UI 8.5 beta is available for the Galaxy S25 series. It is expected to roll out to older Galaxy S models in the near future.
