The Nintendo Direct that should reveal more information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is very close and the excitement is palpable. Fans cannot wait for the beginning of April to find out more about the console that everyone wants to see as soon as possible.

And while we do know some information about the upcoming console, the major consumer-related information is still missing, including the release date, price, and all launch titles. Mario Kart should be there as a launch title for the Switch 2, but former PR manager of Nintendo America thinks it is a strange choice.

Analysts Predict Switch 2 Will Be Nintendo’s Biggest Console Launch Ever

The source of the information is the following podcast:

Krysta Yang worked in Nintendo’s marketing department for some time, so she knows the inside-outs of the company. In case you’re unable to watch the whole video, she thinks that Mario Kart as a launch title is a very unusual move on Nintendo’s side.

She says that Nintendo generally had the practice of using more groundbreaking games for launch titles, “like Breath of the Wild, for example, it’s like this new game-breaking, genre-bending thing that’s never been seen before – and that’s what’s gonna make you want to buy the new hardware.”

She does admit that “we’re kind of in a different situation with the new Mario Kart because of how successful Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been,” but she still sees it as a potential risk. Namely, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe doing so well and still having a large fanbase, she believes that not everyone might want to jump to upgrade to the new console immediately.

“How is Nintendo going to convince me to get the new Mario Kart?” she wonders, making a fair point – why would players rush to buy something that they already have? Nintendo has promised us that the new Mario Kart will bring a lot of new elements to the game, so we believe that they will be able to convince the consumers to buy the new console.

More information will hopefully be confirmed in April!
