As you probably know, the world of H.P. Lovecraft is a fascinating horror world that has been an inspiration for numerous authors for decades now, whether they are writers, visual artists, musicians, or even game developers.

Lovecraft’s world is truly interesting and his unique approach to the horror genre has been adapted in numerous games, whether it’s board games or actual video games, like the one we are going to talk about in this report.

RailGods of Hysterra is a survival horror game inspired by the Cthulhu Mythos, which will see you, as the player, survive in a world devastated by the Great Old Ones, the demonic deities of Lovecraft’s stories.

RailGods of Hysterra has officially gotten an early access release, in which the player will have to explore an Earth devastated by the Great Old Ones, fight off cultists and monsters, as well ass give sacrifices to the Great Old Ones in order to survive.

The game can be played in solo mode, but there is also a co-op mode that will support up to five players per session. The Early Access release brings the following features:

  • New boss: Fallen Rail God. It also features a unique corruption system.
  • Main quest closely tied to crafting, building, and combat
  • Dark gifts unlocked through the cycle of sacrifices and other systems.
  • Completely overhauled long-range combat from targets to firing behavior
  • Updated close-combat from VFX, animations, and hit effects
  • New tactics added based on insanity
  • Inventory made easier to use with filters and optimization
  • Storage contents centralized. If you have a storage in front of you, you can take out stored items from anywhere.
  • No stress, crafting and building can use resources from all inventories and storage.

But, that’s not all. The developers have already announced two book-inspired updates. The Shadows Over Innsmouth update will come in June or July and will include new areas, zones, enemies, RailGods vehicles, a new Obelisk Trial, a revamped building system, an updated quest system, and expanded character customization.

The second update, Dunwich Horror, is scheduled to be released in August and September and will include the same set of additions like the previous update. No further details have been provided at this point.
