Meta’s smart glasses have already made a splash, especially with their collaboration with Ray-Ban. These stylish glasses, packed with cameras and an AI assistant, have been popular with social media users. But now, Meta is taking things further by adding a screen to its next-generation glasses.

The new smart glasses, code-named Hypernova, are expected to launch by the end of 2025. Unlike the current models, these will come with a built-in display. However, this new feature comes with a steep price. According to Bloomberg, Meta employees estimate that the glasses will cost between $1,000 and $1,400. That’s much higher than other smart glasses, which usually cost around $500.

Some of the most popular smart glasses today—like the Viture Pro, Xreal One, and Rokid Max—already offer high-resolution screens and stylish designs. But Meta’s new glasses will take a different approach.

Most smart glasses today use two screens, one for each eye, to create an immersive experience. But Meta’s Hypernova glasses will only have a display for the right eye. This small screen will be in the lower right corner, so users can look down to see it.

This design allows the user to still see clearly through the left lens. Instead of fully immersing the wearer in digital content, the screen will provide quick information without blocking their view of the real world.

Hypernova glasses will allow users to:

  • Take pictures
  • Watch videos
  • Use navigation apps
  • Check messages and notifications (like from WhatsApp)

Users will control the interface by tapping and swiping on the glasses’ stem. But Meta is also working on an extra accessory to make controls even easier.

Along with the glasses, Meta is developing a wristband called Ceres. This band will let users control the glasses with hand gestures like pinching and rotating their wrists. The wristband will reportedly be included with the glasses when they launch.

Hypernova glasses will run on a customized version of Android, powered by Qualcomm processors. Interestingly, Samsung is also working on smart glasses that will use Android, with a planned release in 2025.

Meanwhile, Meta is continuing to develop even more advanced AR products. Their Orion holographic glasses and Aria Gen 2 AR glasses are in the works, but those seem to be aimed at research and future innovations.

Meta’s upcoming smart glasses will be a unique mix of fashion and function. They won’t fully replace VR headsets, but they will make digital information more accessible in everyday life. With their one-eyed screen, AI-powered features, and wristband controls, they could change how people use smart glasses.

The big question now is: Will people be willing to pay over $1,000 for them?
