Apple might be getting ready to make a big upgrade to the memory used in its iPhones. A leaker with a good track record has said that the iPhone 18 series will use a better type of memory called LPDDR5X. This new memory will bring three major benefits: faster speed, lower power use, and better reliability.

Right now, iPhones use LPDDR5 memory. This is fast and efficient, but LPDDR5X is even better. According to the leaker: “The iPhone 18 series will launch a 6-channel LPDDR5X with large memory next year, and the performance section has begun to develop.

The new LPDDR5X memory is an improved version of the current tech. It increases memory speed from 6.4Gbps to 8.5Gbps, reduces power consumption by up to 20%, and improves how well the memory works thanks to better signal quality and a new adaptive refresh process.

Before the iPhone 18, Apple is also expected to upgrade the memory in all iPhone 17 models. Last year, Apple raised the memory to 8GB for all iPhone 15 models. This was needed to support Apple’s new AI features, known as Apple Intelligence.

At first, it was believed that only the Pro models of the iPhone 17 would move up to 12GB of memory. But well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo later said that even the iPhone 17 Air and possibly the base model would get 12GB, depending on memory supply.

Now, leaker Digital Chat Station, who has been right before about camera upgrades in the iPhone 16 Pro, has said more clearly: “The iPhone 17 series requires full Apple Intelligence and AI on a large scale, so it will have 12GB of memory on a large scale.

This means it’s very likely all iPhone 17 models will come with 12GB of memory to support better AI features.

These changes will make iPhones faster, smarter, and more power-efficient. With LPDDR5X in the iPhone 18 and 12GB of RAM in the iPhone 17, users can expect better performance for tasks like AI, gaming, and multitasking—while using less battery.

Apple has not confirmed these changes yet, but based on trusted sources, big memory upgrades are on the way for future iPhones.
