Apple is once again focusing on making its iPhones thinner. This year, the company is expected to launch the iPhone 17 Air, its slimmest model ever. Thanks to a new leak from Majin Bu on X, we now have a better idea of just how thin this device might be.

The leaked images show what appear to be 3D-printed models of the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Air. When placed next to each other, the difference in thickness is striking. The Pro model looks much bulkier, while the iPhone 17 Air appears incredibly thin.

According to the leak, the iPhone 17 Air could be just 5.5mm thick. If this is accurate, it would make it the slimmest iPhone ever. For comparison, the iPhone 6, which was previously Apple’s thinnest model, measured 6.9mm. Apple hasn’t made a phone this thin in years.

While Apple hasn’t confirmed any details, this leak supports earlier reports. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to replace the Plus model and act as an experiment in slim design. It could be Apple’s way of testing thinner components that might be used in future devices, like a foldable iPhone.

To achieve such a thin profile, Apple may have to make some trade-offs. Battery life is a big concern, but reports suggest Apple will use a high-density battery. This type of battery takes up less space while still offering decent power. The camera bump remains visible, with leaks suggesting the camera module is 4.4mm thick. This means that while the main body of the phone is super thin, the thickest part could be around 9.9mm.

The iPhone 17 Air will take the place of the Plus model in Apple’s lineup. This means the company will release four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Despite replacing the Plus, the iPhone 17 Air will likely keep some of its features, such as a large 6.9-inch display. However, it’s unclear if the slimmer design will support Apple’s ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate.

One surprising detail is that the iPhone 17 Air may come with just a single camera. In 2025, most smartphones feature multiple lenses, so Apple will need to offer something unique to attract buyers. As for performance, the phone is expected to run on the A19 chipset, the same processor used in the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup
