Final Fantasy XVI was released back in 2023 for the PlayStation, and it got its PC port in 2024. The game was met with praise by critics and was, at the time of its launch, the best-selling game in several countries, including Japan.

Since then, the game has been having a pretty successful run, but some recent reports seemingly overstated its success. If you remember, Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda recently stated that the game had sold over 3.5 million copies, but he has now retracted that claim and issued an apology.

And while this is not a controversy per se, Yasuda still wanted to set things straight, as the numbers he presented were not correct. The original article is Japanese, and the translation reveals the following information:

So, as it seems, the number shared by Yasuda was not an official number, despite what the initial article claims. Yasuda went on to correct this statement, claiming that the number was actually an estimate and not an official number shared by Square Enix.

Many fans commented how the number did not make sense and now Yasuda has cleared this up, so there is no confusion regarding the matter at hand.
