2025’s Kia EV9 is Being Recalled Again

Kia owners should be aware that their 2025 slate of the EV9 is in trouble again, as several models are being recalled again. The reason? As it has been reported – faulty rear gear drive units could cause loss of propulsion. And while this is certainly not good news for owners, there is a silver lining to this is not a major recall.
Namely, as sources report, the recall will include just 342 of the three-row electric SUVs. NHTSA claims that these vehicles might have rear gear drive units containing motor shafts that were improperly welded during assembly by one of the suppliers.
If this issue happens, the owners will experience either abnormal driveline noise and/or will see a “Check AWD/4WD” warning message on the dashboard, which will be an indicator that the issue is present in their vehicle.
The silver lining here is that KIA estimates that only 4% of the recalled vehicles (which is roughly 14 EV9s in total) will actually have this issue, but they have done the right thing and have recalled the whole series to avoid any issue.
In case you’re interested, the fix for the problem is also relatively simple, which is definitely a good thing. Namely, a simple replacement of the rear gear drive unit is all that is needed and the dealers will perform this free of charge, as has been reported.
Kia is also planning on contacting affected owners via mail starting March 7, 2025, while owners can contact the customer service department for more information; the number is 800-333-4542; the reference number for this recall is SC337.
