Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng has introduced its 2025 X9, a fully electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) designed for families and tech enthusiasts. Launched in Hong Kong, the X9 is now set to enter markets like Australia, Thailand, and Europe by late 2025. It brings advanced technology, fast charging, and a spacious, comfortable interior to the growing electric MPV segment.

The X9 runs on Xpeng’s 800-volt platform, enabling rapid charging. It can gain up to 405 km of range in just 10 minutes or charge from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes. The base model has a 94.8 kWh battery, offering a range of about 580 km under WLTP standards. A larger 105 kWh battery is available in higher trims, extending the range to around 740 km. Energy efficiency is impressive, using only 16.2 kWh per 100 km, the lowest in its class.

Performance is strong, with the entry-level X9 accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, powered by a 235 kW front motor. All-wheel-drive versions, equipped with an additional rear motor, cut that time to 5.7 seconds. The vehicle also features active rear-wheel steering, giving it a tight 5.4-meter turning radius for easy handling in crowded areas.

Inside, the X9 prioritizes comfort and convenience. It seats seven, with zero-gravity reclining seats in the first and second rows to reduce fatigue on long trips. A wide central aisle makes the third row easily accessible, even for kids. The third row folds flat with one button, creating ample cargo space. A 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen, certified for low blue light, tilts up to 75 degrees and supports streaming services like YouTube and Spotify. Other features include soft-close doors, a refrigerator/warmer, and a karaoke system.

The X9 is packed with cutting-edge tech. Its Turing AI Smart Driving system, powered by a 40-core chip, supports hands-free highway driving, automatic lane changes, and parking lot navigation. The AI-powered suspension adjusts to road conditions in real time, ensuring a smooth ride. Safety is a focus, with 14 active safety features, including automatic emergency braking. The battery is built to withstand extreme impacts, and the vehicle has earned top scores in major crash tests.

Xpeng has upgraded the X9 with 496 technical improvements, including 35% new parts. The cabin uses premium materials, with soft-touch surfaces covering 26.6 square meters. Noise reduction efforts, backed by significant investment, make the interior exceptionally quiet. In Australia, pricing starts at $77,200 for the base model and reaches $90,100 for the top trim. In China, the X9 starts at around $49,900 USD, with Europe’s pricing expected to begin above €40,000.

Xpeng is expanding globally, with over 2,110 ultra-fast charging stations and partnerships with companies like Volkswagen and bp pulse. The company’s charging network covers 31 markets, including Singapore, Malaysia, and 27 European countries, with 2.07 million charging points.

The X9 is already a hit in China, leading electric MPV sales in 2024. With its blend of luxury, technology, and practicality, it aims to attract buyers in markets with few electric MPV options. Xpeng plans to launch the X9 in Australia later this year, following the success of its G6 SUV, which starts at $54,800.
