Mitsubishi Gears Up for Electric Future with New Crossover Launch
Mitsubishi Motors is stepping into the modern electric vehicle landscape with a new electric crossover set to hit the U.S. market in the summer of 2026. This will be the first new model introduced by the Japanese automaker in the U.S. since the Eclipse Cross made its debut seven years ago.
The upcoming electric vehicle is an essential part of Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 strategy, which aims to launch a new or updated vehicle every year from 2026 to 2030. This plan reflects the company’s goal of enhancing its presence in the North American market, particularly in the U.S. and Canada.
To make this new EV a reality, Mitsubishi is collaborating with Nissan, leveraging technology from the next-generation Nissan LEAF. This partnership highlights the synergy within the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and ensures that the crossover will feature advanced electric capabilities.
The new electric crossover will join Mitsubishi’s lineup alongside the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, known as the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV. This addition underscores the brand’s commitment to offering a variety of powertrain options, including traditional combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric vehicles.
Mitsubishi Motors North America’s president and CEO, Mark Chaffin, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s progress. He emphasized that introducing the new electric model will give customers more choices, whether they prefer conventional, hybrid, or electric power. The Momentum 2030 strategy also focuses on modernizing retail sales and expanding the dealership network to support this growth.
“Mitsubishi Motors is on an upward trajectory, especially in the United States. The addition of this new battery-electric vehicle to our lineup will deliver a blend of internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles, so that our customers have the choice of technology that best suits their needs.”
Although Mitsubishi has not yet revealed the new crossover’s name or technical specifications, the move signals the brand’s commitment to sustainability and consumer choice. As Mitsubishi continues its push towards electrification, the 2026 electric crossover could mark a significant milestone in the brand’s journey towards a greener future.
