How to Transfer Money From PayPal to Someone Else’s Bank Account

PayPal is the most popular payment platform in the world and with PayPal comes a lot of conveniences. This has made several people wonder if it’s possible to send funds to someone else’s bank account through PayPal. And I’ll be answering this question in detail in this article. 

Unfortunately, Paypal does not allow users to send funds to a bank account that’s isn’t theirs and already linked to Paypal. What you can do is send funds to someone’s PayPal account and the person can choose to withdraw the funds to his/her bank account. 

PayPal only allows you to add a bank account or credit and debit cards with names that match your own. This means you can only link your bank accounts and cards to your account. I’ll be discussing how to add your bank account to PayPal as it will make things more convenient for you. 

Linking a bank account to PayPal 

Linking a bank account to your PayPal account is very easy. Simply log in to your account and then navigate and click the “Add or Edit Bank Account” button which can be found on your profile page. An email explaining how to add a bank account will be sent to you by PayPal. And PayPal will either deposit or withdraw a few cents to verify the account is linked. Successfully linking a bank account to your PayPal verifies your account and lifts your limits.

After you’ve linked a bank account to your PayPal account, here’s how to confirm it:

• Log in to your PayPal account through the web or the PayPal app.
• Navigate to and click on Profile which you’ll find near the top of the page
• Click on My money.
• The next step is to Click Update. You’ll find this beside credit and debit cards.
• Click Confirm.

There are 2 ways you can confirm your bank account

Option 1: The first option allows you to confirm your bank account instantly. This option is for people that do online banking as they will be able to confirm their account in a few minutes.

Option 2: The second option takes longer – between 2-3 days. If you don’t wish to enter your online banking details or don’t bank online, you’ll have to confirm your bank account by using this second method. 

PayPal will deposit 2 small amounts (usually less than $1.00 USD each) into your bank account. These amounts should appear on your bank statement after 2 – 3 business days. Check your bank statement and note the exact amounts deposited. Then follow the following steps:

• Log in to your PayPal account through the website or app
• Click Profile near the top of the page.
• Navigate to and click on Profile which you’ll find near the top of the page
• Click on My money.
• The next step is to Click Update. You’ll find this beside credit and debit cards.
• Enter the exact amount of the two payments PayPal made to your bank account.
• Then click Submit.

Can I add someone else’s bank account or card to my PayPal account?

The answer to the above question is no. Since you are an individual account owner, your registered name on PayPal must match exactly the name registered on your bank account. This prevents PayPal users from adding bank accounts or credit/debit cards that are not theirs. 

How do I transfer money to my bank account?

You can transfer money from your PayPal balance to your linked bank account at any time. You have the option to withdraw funds to your PayPal account instantly or follow the normal procedure.

Standard transfer to your bank account (Estimated arrival: 1 business day)

• Log in to your PayPal account through the web or the PayPal app.
• Go to your summary page and click Accept the Money. However, if you have a PayPal Cash or PayPal Cash Plus account, you’ll have to choose Transfer Money.
• Select Transfer to your bank.
• The next step is to select your bank account under the “Standard” section. After that, click on Next. 
• Enter the amount of money you want to transfer and click Next.
• Review the details of the transfer. Double-check that all information is correct, then click Transfer $XX Now.
• Click Done to complete the transfer.

While PayPal won’t charge you for sending money to your bank account, some banks may charge a fee. You’ll have to contact your bank for information on any fees you may incur from transferring funds to your account via PayPal. A standard transfer to a bank account usually takes 1 business day but sometimes it may take 3-5 business days, depending on your bank’s clearing process.

Instant transfer to your bank account (Estimated arrival: about 30 minutes)

PayPal instant transfer is a service that allows you to make payments instantly to or from your bank account. The transfer goes through almost immediately when using Paypal Instant Transfer. The maximum time of arrival when doing instant transfers on PayPal is 30 minutes. 

• Go to your summary page and click Accept the Money. You’ll have to click Transfer Money instead If you have a PayPal Cash or PayPal Cash Plus account.
• Click Transfer to your bank.
• Under the “Instant section”, you’ll be given the option to select your debit card or bank account. After that, click Next.
• Enter the amount of money you want to transfer and click Next.
• Review the details of your transfer, then click Transfer $XX Now.
• Click Done to complete the transfer.

Note that PayPal charges a fee to instantly send funds to your bank account or debit card.
