Google Play Will Implement New Memory Standard Starting in November 2025

Alongside Apple’s store, the Google Play platform is the most prominent source of mobile applications for millions of users around the world. If you want your app to succeed as a developer, you generally want to see it on the Google Play platform.
As you know, there are certain conditions that you, as a developer, have to meet before seeing your application on Google Play. It’s not like just anyone can just upload the app; there are rules and it seems that they are going to become stricter.
Namely, Google has confirmed that it is increasing its standards for apps being submitted to Google Play, starting in November this year, and we have the details here for you.
As confirmed, Google is going to apply stricter submission rules for apps aiming to appear on the Google Play store starting on November 1, 2025. These rules will aim to improve the performance of the apps on the Play store and are related to memory standards.
Namely, as you probably know, Android devices and Google have maintained the 4KB memory standard since… forever basically, but that is now becoming a thing of the past, as Google will start implementing the newer 16KB memory standard.
Why? Well, this seems to come from Google’s efforts to modernize Android’s memory handling as RAM capacities continue to increase, which will ultimately lead to better performance on newer devices. As per Google, this new standard will lead to the following benefits:
- 8% quicker system boot-up
- 4.5% battery life gain
- 30% snappier app launch
- 6.6% faster camera launch
And while developers will have to adapt, this won’t be too big of an issue, since a lot of modern apps already adhere to this standard. If you’re unsure, though, there are ways of checking whether an app is compatible, like the App Bundle Explorer.
As said, this won’t be too big of an issue for developers, but it could potentially be a significant improvement for users, which is great!
