Federal Goverment Bans California’s EV Legislation, More and More States Joining the Legal Battle

As you know, the current U.S. Federal Government led by Donald Trump is not a big fan of EVs, even more so after the Musk-Trump feud, which was – in a way – the last lifeline that EVs had within the government, seeing how Musk’s Teslas are a big player in the market.

But, regardless of that fact, you’ll probably remember – as we’ve reported on it as well – that Trump’s been targeting California’s special EV rules that aim(ed) to ban new gas-powered car sales by 2035.

Trump had said that he would rescind the ban and he’s just done it, raising a question whether the Federal Government has the authority to intervene in state affairs in such a way. California will, of course, react, but more and more states are joining the legal battle.

California Will Fight Congress’ Decision in Court to Protect Its Own Clean Air Policy

As you know, Congress decided to rescind California’s regulations that would see the state ban all new sales of gas-powered cars by 2035, thereby pioneering the use of EVs in the United States. Several states supported this as well, but it seems that Trump is there to stop them.

The President recently signed the congressional decision, which thus entered into power, but as we have already said, California is planning a major legal battle against Trump, which is going to be just one of many, as it seems.

But, aside from California, many new states are also joining the fight, as we can confirm that Colorado, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington will join the legal battle.

Federal jurisdiction is a big issue in the U.S., and so far, the Federal Government hasn’t really interfered in the states’ decisions in a major way. This decision is a big interference and it could shape the state of the Union for decades to come, both in relation to EVs and environmental policies, but also in every other sense.
