ChatGPT to Introduce New Mode That Cuts Down on Moralizing Lectures
OpenAI has officially confirmed that a new, less restrictive operating mode is coming to ChatGPT. This upcoming feature aims to address long-standing user complaints about the AI being too preachy or refusing to discuss mature topics.
According to recent announcements, this update is specifically designed to treat adult users like actual adults. The company plans to loosen the strict guardrails that often resulted in the chatbot delivering moral lectures instead of helpful answers.
Fidji Simo, the head of applications at OpenAI, revealed these details during a briefing for the GPT-5.2 model. She stated that the new “Adult Mode” is currently scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2026.
For years, users have criticized the platform for its overly cautious approach to sensitive or mature subjects. Many argued that these excessive safety filters made the tool feel unnatural and less useful for legitimate inquiries.
To access these features, users will need to opt in manually, as the mode will be disabled by default. Additionally, OpenAI will implement a strict age verification system to ensuring that only verified adults can utilize the less restricted version.
