BMW is once again pioneering the auto industry into a new area, despite the fact that the company’s current lineup has been somewhat polarizing. As it seems, the era of buck-toothed BMWs is seemingly close to being over.

Based on a recent interview with some of the company’s executives, it seems that all of BMW’s upcoming models will get the current Neue Klasse treatment, which is going to usher the vehicles into a new design era.

The process won’t come immediately to avoid making the existing models look outdated, but within a four-year period, all of BMW’s models could be getting the new treatment.

“We will make sure that the form language that we are developing now—and starting this year at the IAA [Munich show] with the first of the Neue Klasse vehicles—will be rolled out over the entire product portfolio, leaving no car behind. Of course, it would not be good for us or for our customers if there would be a new type of BMW and a ‘classic’ type of BMW. We’re going to change the look and feel of the BMW brand,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, the company’s lead designer.

At the same time, product chief Bernd Körber said that despite it not being immediate, the change will be swift, as it is bound to happen within a relatively short four-year period, with the Neue Klasse label being “the next generation of all cars and all toolboxes when it comes to engine, digital, ADAS, [etc].”

“We will launch the Neue Klasse on a BEV-purpose platform with iX3 and 3-series, but then the rollout will be within three-and-a-half years across the entire portfolio,” Körber added, revealing which models will be “affected” in the first wave.

BMW is changing the design for its EVs and it will be interesting to see how big of an impact this is going to have on the market as a whole.
